VW Reports December 2008 Sales Numbers

Like it’s competition, Volkswagen announced a 14% reduction in year-to-year car sales for the month of December 2008. This decrease was far less than both Ford and General Motors, However.

We relocated our North American headquarters to Herndon, VA. bringing us closer to our customers, we announced an all-new North American production facility will be built in Chattanooga, TN., and we launched an impressive five new vehicles that allowed Volkswagen to buck the economic downturn as our sales remained close to our 2007 totals. VW Sales Decrease Well Below Big Three

HERNDON, Va.— Volkswagen of America, Inc. today announced November 2008 sales of 14,295 units, a 19.2 percent decrease over the November 2007 sales of 17,689 vehicles.   On a year-to-date basis, 2008 Volkswagen sales are 2.1 percent behind 2007 sales through November.

“This is the toughest economic environment we’ve seen in a long time and it presents a significant challenge” said Mark Barnes, Chief Operating Officer, Volkswagen of America, Inc. “Nevertheless, our clean diesel TDI’s continued to sell very well even in this tough economy and represented 17 percent of our monthly sales. This is very promising for the Volkswagen Brand as we strive to continue to be the market leader in affordable clean diesel technology. We’re also pleased that our all-new seven passenger minivan, Routan, has posted its best month ever with sales of 1,324 units.” added Barnes.

Why do you suppose VW has a sales decrease year-to-date of only 2%, while some of the domestic automakers have a decrease near 30%?

All New Routan Campaign Launches

HERNDON, Va. – Volkswagen of America announced today that the all new Routan campaign is off to a great start. The Routan is the only minivan sold in America that has German engineering. The new campaign has radio, print, online and television components and uses Brooke Shields as a spokesperson.

July 2008 Sales Info Available for VW

HERNDON, Va.— Volkswagen of America, Inc. today announced that their sales for July of 2008 exceeded the sales from the same period in 2007.

VW said that they were pleased with the sales report, and credited increasing sales of the GTI for helping boost last month’s numbers.  VW should be proud of this sales report, especially in light of the trying economic times.
